A Mini (Almost) Finish

This week was pretty awesome on some counts, and kinda flat on others. The biggest awesome bit? LittleOne passed her drivers license test and is now driving herself around! Woohoo! My taxi hat is officially OFF now, forever I hope!! Less yo-yo-ing in the car and more quilting is never a bad thing, right?

With my new found productivity I was able to make good progress on this little quilt, and put the last stitches in the binding last night: Continue reading

New Inchie Quilt! Where the Inchies Are Remake

I’m totally excited about my latest finish! It’s a fun little quilt that I made for Valentine’s Day, and also just because! Just because I had some red and pink scraps laying around, and just because I wanted a quick-to-make project with Inchies. If you follow on Instagram, you’ve seen some sneak peeks already, but now I have some larger pics of the quilt and of course, the addicting little Inchies. Continue reading

Word of the Year: Balance

I like the “Word of the Year” thought process better than New Year’s Resolutions for sure. Resolutions have never sat very well with me. Perhaps the two needn’t be mutually exclusive, and resolutions can be a smaller and more detailed part of the “Word of the Year” process. In any case, I had a look back at last year’s Word of the Year post even though I already knew that I failed at keeping it in mind along about March. Continue reading

First Quilt Finish of 2015: Softly Spoken

This one is in the “Thank Goodness it’s Finally Finished” category! I started this quilt in September, 2013, hoping for something easy and quick, and it was neither. It’s not that the piecing is complex (it’s not) or that any of the construction was terribly difficult (it wasn’t), but it turned into much more of a “thing” than I’d anticipated.

It’s modern-ish. That’s part of the problem, at least for me. It’s outside a number of my boxes, one of them being that I work well from a pattern or at the very least a definite plan, and this quilt had no pattern and only a very vague plan. Rather than purchase anything, I used some Quilter’s Dream batting that I had (which I’m just going to note again that I really don’t like), and between the weight of the quilt and backing and the weight of the batting, this quilt was a total bear to push through the machine for quilting. Then I couldn’t resist complicating things with embroidery, and that takes a while. And yes, all of this is self-inflicted! Continue reading

Crafty Sewing and a Little Giving

It all started with LittleOne’s new job. Yep, my youngest daughter–turning 18 in three days (which honestly seams pretty unreal to me!)–landed a job at a government agency with a high school work study program. Her very first job no less! Just like ITMan, she wears a badge to work every day and this required much searching to find her a badge holder/lanyard thing that was way more awesome than the typical ones on offer at the local office super store. Colorful Cookie Inspiration

In an effort to curb the consumption of holiday sweets around here this year, I told everyone in the house that they could pick just one thing that they’d like me to bake. If you only knew how much sweet stuff we end up with that I don’t bake myself, you would understand that I’m not being mean, it’s just self preservation!

I could already guess what their choices would be, just as I’d already made the decision as to what my own choice would be. Kentucky Brown Sugar Pecan Bars are my very favorite holiday cookies, so the choice was easy! Continue reading
