Caryl Bryer Fallert’s quilt Corona #2: Solar Eclipse won the $10,000 Best of Show award at the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah, Kentucky in 1989. It was the first time a completely machine stitched quilt won this prestigious award. At that time, traditionalists often rejected machine quilting, and the award caused quite a furor! Today, 20 years later, there is a $12,000 award for machine workmanship at the AQS Quilt Show.
