Threads of Change

Spice up your machine quilting! Use many types of threads in different areas of the same quilt for a variety of effects. Use #100 silk thread for stitching in the ditch; it’s so fine it seems to disappear so you’ll just see dimension, not actual thread lines. Try some thicker threads like 28wt. or even 12wt. cotton for larger design motifs, or variegated rayon or polyester threads for background quilting for subtle colorplay and shimmer across the quilt. For fabulous instant texture, try Aurifil’s Wool Lana 12, a textured thread made of 50% Wool (Australian) & 50% acrylic, also available in variegated and mottled/tweed colors.
