Stuck on Flannel

Always make a mini quilt sandwich to test a prospective backing fabric to see if it will glide well over the machine bed for free motion quilting. Sometimes fabrics that seem so soft and wonderfully perfect for backings can be a free motion quilter’s worst nightmare, seeming to stick and drag on the machine bed causing uneven stitches and jagged lines and curves. Certain inks and dyes on the fabric can cause this problem, and even flannels are not immune; printed flannel fabrics can be some of the worst offenders!
