Handmade Quilt Stencil

If you’re in a pinch for a quilting stencil for a fairly simple design, trace the design onto a bit of freezer paper using a fine point sharpie marker. Press the freezer paper to another piece of freezer paper, shiny sides together to make it a bit stiffer. Use your sewing machine with an unthreaded size 16 needle to perforate the freezer paper along the drawn lines with a short stitch length so that the holes are close together. Lay the stencil on your quilt, and use a chalk pouncer to transfer the design to the quilt through the holes in the paper, and then use a chalk marking pencil to go over the dots and connect them into a solid line before quilting.
