Clip Bobbin Threads the Easy Way

Caryl Bryer Fallert is the source of this tip, which is so simple yet brilliant, it’s a wonder more people don’t know about it!

She and I both start and stop our machine quilting with several tiny, too-small-to-pull out stitches. What she does then is take one more long stitch, lift the presser foot, pull the quilt out, and tug on the top thread, bringing the bobbin thread up to the surface for easy clipping.

It sure beats my former method of burrowing under a quilt, trying to locate the bobbin thread!

(Editor’s note: This method will also keep you from accidentally snipping the quilt backing with the scissors while burrowing under the quilt!)
