Stars In My Hand is on its way to Duluth, Minnesota for the Quilting on the Waterfront Quilt Show, August 17-19, 2006. Quilting on the Waterfront is an all-machine-quilting show, with separate divisions for domestic and longarm machines. If you’re in the area, check it out!
And remember, today is the last day in July to enter the Quilted Whispers Contest. I’ll be drawing a name for the winner tomorrow, so get those last minute entries in now!
Woohoo! I’m sooo excited! Yes, I’m tooting my own horn here, but I can’t help it! Stars In My Hand was awarded 2nd Place in the Bed Quilt – Pieced category at the NQA Quilt Show in Columbus, Ohio last weekend. This is my first award at a major show and I am really, really jazzed about it! You can see larger pictures and detail views of Stars In My Hand in the DreamWeaver’s Quilts Galleries and see a list of all the award winners on the NQA site.
Favorite Things: Infinite Feathers Quilting Design Book and Template
If you’re interested in feather quilting, you won’t want to miss this one! Anita Shackelford takes you on a feather odyssey in Infinite Feathers: Quilt Designs, and introduces you to her indispensable companion tool, the Infinite Feathers Quilting Design Template. Feather quilting seems to be the hallmark of really intricate and detailed heirloom quilts, and it can be rather intimidating to consider quilting feathers whether by hand or machine, not to mention drawing your own feather designs. Anita makes it an easy, step-by-step
process with her detailed instructions and creative ideas for using the Feather Template to draw your own designs to fit any space on your quilt. There are also lots of ready to use designs included in the back of the book. I’ve used Anita’s designs, methods and template on many of my large quilts like FeatherGlow and Material Marquetry as well as other smaller projects.
The king size quilt I’ve been working on is finally done, and I’ve washed it and blocked it to dry. It’s always a bit scary, putting a quilt in the washer; no matter that I’ve done everything right to prevent mishaps, I still wonder, will the dyes run, will all my machine quilting unravel at the ends, will it be square when it comes out? So far, so good though, and now I just have to put the label and hanging sleeves on, and pretty soon I’ll have a picture to share. Then the quilt is on its way to the National Quilting Association show in Columbus, Ohio, June 8-10, 2006. Stay tuned….
